Nov 10 I pet a Cheetah!

Hello everyone again,

So this week I'm going to write a bit different because there were only certain days with a lot of events.

Starting with Tuesday, we went up to Busia early in the morning to do flat checks, DDM and exchanges. we had a very productive time there and a very spiritual DDM about teaching people not lessons. Then throughout the day, the teachings we had received we tried to apply in all our teaching. I was with Elder Orenge and he showed me some of their powerful investigators who have great potential to build up the branch and strength of the church in Busia.

Wednesday we returned from Busia in the morning to be able to attend DDM with the sisters here in Kisumu. It was a good meeting and we were able to fix some of the issues we have been having. One of the most important parts of being a leader is making sure that those you lead know that you love them. If they know that, then when situations require firmness and occasional boldness, then they know you are only doing it out of a love for them and trying to help them progress.

Thursday We had a wonderful experience with brother David whom we have been teaching the last few weeks, he is a former pastor from Mombasa, well last time we had committed him to go and pray about baptism by the proper authority and the truthfulness of the gospel, He did pray and he did get his answer and now he committed for Baptism in January!! We were so happy when he told us that, one of the best days on mission for sure. Always so amazing to see someone really, truly make that willing change to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Restored Gospel. Teaching David was the highlight of the day.

Friday was weekly planning as usual and correlation with the BML, then baptismal interviews.

Saturday was a busy teaching day, we really made some progress with sister Catherine, she detailed for us her conversion story and desire to come to church each week and the fervent prayers that she gives that her husband may one day join the church. We so greatly want to see them be able to become an eternal family, but that can only come through the sealing of the family within the temple of God.

Sunday was Baptisms!  brother Walter, Naphtal and Mary, it was really a wonderful experience, I had the privilege to baptize  Walter and brother Naphtal, one of the sisters investigators whom I have become pretty good friends with. Its been a long time since being in the waters of baptism with someone, wow the spirit was strong, I loved it, i had been fasting that day and being in the water, I could really feel that they were doing the right thing and that I have the proper authority to assist them in that ordinance. The branch is growing here in Kisumu, its so wonderful to see my brothers and sisters enter into covenants with the Savior that will enable them to return back to our heavenly father. Baptism is that first ordinance that we must make, then we can begin progression.

Today we went to the Impala park wildlife sanctuary in which we saw all sorts of cool animals, buffalo, leopards, warthogs, lions, monkeys, and cheetahs. We were able to pay 300sh and the groundskeeper allowed us into have our picture taken with the cheetahs, we were literally able to pet the cheetahs, it was awesome! Really intense to be so close to such a wild and fierce animal, but they say that cheetahs are actually pretty friendly and must have speed in order to attack their prey. That was a once in a life time experience that's for sure!

Well the pictures are on their way.  Hope all is well there, Thank you for all your prayers and support, I appreciate it so greatly.Love always,
Elder Rushton Jay Hiltbrand
